Various Basic Shipping Charges on Landside and Waterside

Landside

  1. Stevedoring - cargo handling charges for loading / discharging cargo on / from conventional breakbulk vessels.
  2. LCL Service Charge - charge for stuffing and unstuffing LCL (Less than Container Load) cargo into or from a container at the freight station.
  3. Equipment Transfer Charge (ETC) - charge for lifting an empty or loaded container onto / from the trailer. Also called Lift-on / Lift-off (LOLO) charge. This charge is applicable on FCL (Full Container Load) containers only.
  4. Terminal Handling Charge (THC) - charge for handling (receiving and delivering) FCL containers at the container yard (CY).

Waterside

  1. Bunker Adjustment Factor (BAF) - surcharge for offsetting changes in fuel prices.
  2. Congestion Surcharge - surcharge levied on cargo that are discharge at a port where ships are experiencing delays in turnaround time.
  3. Currency Adjustment Factor (CAF) - surcharge for offsetting fluctuations in currency exchange rates of various currencies against the US Dollar. In Asia and Japan trade, this surcharge is called the Yen Adjustment Surcharge (YAS).
  4. Ocean Freight - freight charge on the main sea voyage.
  5. On Carriage - freight for transporting cargo from the main discharge port to the final destination (outport).
  6. Pre-Carriage - freight for transporting cargo from an outport to the main load port to connect the mother (ocean) vessel.
  7. Tank Clearing Charge - surcharge levied on bulk liquid cargoes such as latex, chemicals and oil transported in deep tanks of conventional vessels.
